SE7EN-'the prediction' & 'the change'

1)I thought I knew the difference between 'tees' and 'jerseys'....only 2 be proved wrong when I enetered AFMC...or more correctly, when I moved to Pune,
quite rightly dubbed 'THE OXFORD OF THE EAST'....
wearing a tee meant to absorb sweat on a sports field to malls, parties and any occasion whatsoever....its cool and fashionable,I've learnt...more so if u are an EPL fan...
no rocket science this, just that some idiotic 'small town bhaiyya' needed 2 odd years 2 understand something this simple...

2)Heard it from a senior for the first time in JULY'08 during one of the famed 'orientation sessions'@AFMC,sessions which have launched many a distinguished career in medicine.....
Never knew it would become such an integral part of my vocabulary in the days to follow.....
A constant irritant to friends and family alike,it's used by
KILROYS all over the world and is a sure-shot way to identify an AFMCite.....
as they say "cool scene hai"

3)Coming from the eastern part of India, where the usage of the words 'aaiye','aao:  and their likes are so clearly defined;one for elders, the other for juniors it felt kinda weird using only the second for all and sundry....though,with time,I've become used to it...so much so that now I am accused of acting smart when i talk in the same lingo bk home...

4)Calling 'daru' as 'sharaab' doesn't make it any more enjoyable nor is 'daru' a crude word used by rogues in the street....make no mistake,i'm a teetotaller...
however, the number of times I've been offered 'TRIPLE FILTERED CLEAR FLUID 4M RUSSIA'  is beyond memory....my 1st hangover??...as of now,it needs to wait

5)Having screwed exams and risked bashings from mummy for matches the 'men in blue' actually lost,I really felt cricket was the game for me..not the skills part, which incidentally, are as limited as that of a duck@flying,but the following part.....like millions of other Indians,I really felt that no other game could catch my fancy the way it did...
come 2008;I entered AFMC and had my first brush with basketball...A horrendous run by the 'Men In Blue'combined with some cool b'ball action@college-that was all it took for my loyalties to shift...

around the same time,I started following the NBA..soon,it was all abt 'kobe' and 'wade'....cricket still excites me but now its basketball that gives me the adrenaline rush...
I've lost count of the nmbr of times I've seen myself nailing a buzzer-beating 3-pointer with the crowd cheering me on...sadly,they've all been the stuff of dreams..
and
even though the loyalties have shifted, one thing's remained the same.....my skills, rather, the lack of them....I must be the biggest basketball fan ever not knowing even to take a proper lay-up.....

6)I've learnt its much easier to promise yourself that you won't unleash the 'so called atrocities' on others that were heaped on you when u were hapless nd the others all-powerful.....for sure,'with great power, comes gr8 responsibility'..at times too big to make you keep promises

PROMISES ARE TOUGH TO KEEP..MORE SO,A PROMISE MADE TO ONESELF....

7)This one's for the fairer sex-gals are always conscious of the effect they are having on the men around them...more so,if they've got the looks.
Well, contrary to poular perception, most men 'willingly 'walk into the trap nd 'only some' get fooled into believing that she's the demure, pretty fairy of their dreams...
might just be the case that you're the one she's been waiting for....not like a dreamy-eyed girl waiting for her prince-charming but like a wolf waiting for a rabbit behind the bushes....and if I sound bitter, then so be it...

summer 2008,a boy from a 'so called small town' boarded the GEETANJALI EXPRESS to Bombay Mumbai(the shivsena/MNS effect)enroute Punefor an interview@an armed forces institution....

he met an airforce guy on train....not an officer, but a sergeant(a junior commissioned rank in the IAF)...they talked about varied topics...one amongst them being the high suicide rate in the forces...the sergeant was startled by the mention of the topic but regained composure and instead of answering shot back a question...."beta!you yourself might become a part of the armed forces sometime in the future..do you see yourself changing once you enter ur dream institution??"

Puzzled initially, the boy confidently replied back that he'd change only in the positive sense....ingraining only the essentials an officer required....
the man chuckled and said "we'll see!!hope you don't forget this 'sergeant' once you become an officer??"....sarcastic??...was he??

he gave the boy his number asking him to keep him updated about his interview result....
while parting,he said "remember my words if u do enter defence, some 2 years 4m now u'll find the answer to your question"

"how??"the boy had asked....
"C_H_A_N_G_E-just think of this 6 letter word and you'll have your answer"...he said as he alighted...

its been almost 2 nd a half years....the boy seems to have sm answers...
now that:
-he's seen the ugly side of competition, people, authority and relationships,
-he's learnt to read truth thinly veiled behind sarcasm,
-he's had nervous breakdowns learning how to tackle them in the process
-he's seen life, death and suffering from close quarters,
-and yeah,he's seen people bow to peer-pressure,expectations & insecurity.....

he's been tempted,time and again.....
he wonders if this is what the sergeant meant by CHANGE??.....
as for the sergeant's prediction,it seems bang on target....
the boy's changed in more ways than one....some wanted, many unwanted....

About 6 months after joining AFMC,he stumbled upon the sergeant's number going through his phonebook...and the 1st thing he did was deleting it....and that very moment he realised what the sergeant had meant by change.......

P.S.-'C_H_A_N_G_E'-a funny 6 letter word
